Shopsplit Privacy Policy

Shopsplit (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal data when you use the Shopsplit mobile app or website.

Shopsplit is operated by Shopsplit Ltd, a company based in the United Kingdom. We act as the data controller under UK data protection law. Contact: privacy@shopsplit.uk

We collect only the information needed to provide and improve the Shopsplit service.

Account information
• Anonymous user/session identifier (e.g. Firebase UID) created when the app is first used in Guest mode
• Email address and name/display name (if the user chooses to create/sign in to an account)
• Account state/tier data (Guest, Account, Pro), profile completion status, and authentication provider (Apple/Google/Email)
• Subscription/entitlement status and purchase-related identifiers needed to activate/restore benefitsser identifier (e.g. Firebase user ID)

User-generated content
• Shopping lists and product selections
• Images uploaded for shopping-list OCR
• Grocery order confirmation emails or files voluntarily uploaded or forwarded by the user for processing

Order and purchase information

From uploaded or forwarded order confirmations, we may process:
• Product names, quantities, and prices
• Retailer name
• Order date and reference
• Processing metadata (e.g. import status, parse/match results, estimated savings, notification status, technical request identifiers)
• Any other information contained in the order confirmation

Order confirmations may include incidental personal data, such as your name, email address, or delivery details, if present in the email.

Usage and technical data
• App usage events
• IP address
• Device and app version
• Crash and diagnostic data

Location information
• Postcode (entered manually by the user)
• We do not collect precise GPS or real-time location data

Offline cached data

To support offline use of the app:
• We may download and store small-resolution versions of product images on your device
• These images are used only to display shopping lists and favourites when internet access is unavailable
• Cached images remain on your device until removed by the app or the operating system

Guest Mode Account Linking
• Users can access non-account features in Guest mode without registration.
• If a user later creates/signs into an account, guest data and entitlements may be linked to that account where technically supported.
• Some features (such as creating/saving personal shopping lists, order import, and sharing by email) require an account.

We only collect and process the minimum data necessary to provide the Shopsplit service. We use your information to:
• Create and manage user accounts
• Build and manage shopping lists
• Generate shopping lists from uploaded or forwarded grocery order confirmations
• Display estimated prices and savings
• Provide offline access to shopping lists and favourites
• Improve product matching and app functionality
• Operate, secure, and maintain the service
• Respond to support and data-related requests
• Provide Guest access to non-account features (e.g. catalogue/scanner/demo list) without requiring registration.
• Enforce access controls for account-required features.
• Process and restore subscription entitlements, including purchases made before account creation.

We do not:
• Sell personal data
• Display third-party advertising
• Track users across other apps or websites
• Shopsplit does not access or connect to users’ email accounts. Email data is only processed when users explicitly forward messages to the Shopsplit import address.

We process personal data based on:
• Contractual necessity – to provide the Shopsplit service
• Legitimate interests – to improve reliability, performance, and security
• Consent, where required

Uploading images or order confirmation emails is a user-initiated action. Where required, this is processed based on user consent for the specific purpose of providing the feature.

We use trusted third-party service providers, including:
• Google Firebase (authentication, analytics)
• Google Cloud Platform and AWS (infrastructure, data storage, background processing and retention jobs)
• Email service providers (support communications)
• Postmark (inbound email parsing and forwarding to Shopsplit)
• We use analytics tools to understand how users interact with the app and improve performance. This data is aggregated and not used to track users across third-party apps or websites.

Some uploaded content may be processed using automated tools to extract product and order information.
When users forward emails to our import address, message content is first received by our inbound email processor and then securely forwarded to Shopsplit systems for processing.
All third-party providers act only on our instructions and under appropriate safeguards.
These providers process data only as necessary to deliver their services and do not use it for their own purposes.

Shopsplit is intended for users aged 13 and over.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

We retain personal data:
• While your account is active
• Until you request deletion
• Or as required for legal, security, or support purposes
• Provide Guest access to non-account features (e.g. catalogue/scanner/demo list) without requiring registration.
• Enforce access controls for account-required features.
• Process and restore subscription entitlements, including purchases made before account creation.

Uploaded order confirmation emails are processed to provide the requested feature.
Raw order-import email content is redacted from active systems after approximately 60 days.
Extracted structured order/import results (e.g. matched products, quantities, savings estimates, statuses) may be retained longer as part of account history until deletion request or account deletion.
We may retain limited logs/metadata longer where necessary for fraud prevention, security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or support investigations.

Offline cached images are stored locally on your device and can be removed by clearing app data or uninstalling the app.

You have the right to:
• Access your personal data
• Request correction or deletion
• Object to or restrict certain processing

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data.
No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
Material changes will be communicated through the app or website.
