How Shopsplit Works

Shopsplit helps you compare grocery prices, identify savings, and decide the best way to shop — whether you shop in-store or order online.

What Shopsplit does

Shopsplit helps you save money on groceries without manually comparing prices product by product.

Build or import your shopping list, and Shopsplit compares prices across supermarkets, highlights better-value alternatives, and shows where savings are available — across your full basket, not just one item at a time.

Why Shopsplit is different

Traditional grocery comparison usually works one product at a time. That can be useful, but it becomes slow and fragmented when you have a full weekly shop.

Shopsplit is designed around the full shopping list. It reviews multiple items together, compares supermarket prices, and helps you understand the best way to reduce your total spend.

Unlike basic comparison tools, Shopsplit doesn’t just show you where to buy the same products cheaper — it also suggests alternative products and substitutes that can reduce your total cost even further.

For in-store shoppers

If you shop in-store, Shopsplit can help you decide which supermarket gives the best value for your list. You can also see whether splitting your shop between two or more supermarkets could reduce your total cost — and by how much.

For online grocery orders

If you order groceries online, Shopsplit can help you review your order before delivery. Forward your confirmation email to Shopsplit and within minutes you’ll see where you could have saved, which products are cheaper elsewhere, and what to change next time.

If you act fast enough, you may still be within the edit window for your order — meaning you can act on the savings right now, not just next week.

Shopsplit does not own, sell, or deliver grocery products. Your groceries are still purchased from and delivered by your chosen supermarket.

What does “Split” mean?

Sometimes the cheapest way to shop is not to buy everything from one supermarket. Shopsplit may suggest splitting your shopping list across two or more supermarkets to take advantage of better prices, promotions, or product alternatives.

Splitting across two stores typically captures around 80% of available savings. Adding a third store can push that closer to 95% — though for most households, two shops hits the right balance of saving and simplicity.

You stay in control. You decide whether the extra saving is worth visiting another store or placing an additional order.

What about substitutes?

As well as finding cheaper prices for the same products, Shopsplit identifies substitute products — comparable alternatives at a lower price. In many cases, substitutes deliver more savings than store-switching alone.

Substitutes are personal — some shoppers are happy to swap most products, others have firm preferences on certain items. Shopsplit is designed to learn your preferences over time, so suggestions get smarter the more you use it.

How Shopsplit helps you act on the savings

Once you have your recommendation, your shopping list stays live in the app — organised by store so you always know what to pick up where. Tick items off as you shop, and share or email your list if you’re splitting the run between two people.

How much could you save?

UK households that actively compare prices and switch supermarkets save an average of £500–£600 per year compared to those who shop loyally at one chain. On a typical £100 weekly shop, splitting across two supermarkets often reduces the total to £70–£80 — with no change to what you’re actually buying.
